QU Women's Tennis Falls to Army, 4-1

WEST POINT, New York - The Quinnipiac women's tennis team suffered a tough loss on the road Saturday morning, as the Bobcats fell to the stout Army Black Knights, 4-1, in a clinch-style format at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center.
With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 4-6 (3-0 MAAC), while Army improves to 10-5 on the season.
The day began with the No. 2 doubles match, where Sitilia Rencheli (Sarasota, Florida) and Kelsi Oliphant (Calgary, Alberta) took on Genevieve McCormick and Allyson Hayley. The Bobcats' duo was able to get off on the right foot with a 6-3 victory. Quinnipiac fell in the No. 3 doubles match, as Jennifer Lu (Cypress, California) and Proyfon Lohaphaisan (Santa Clarita, California) fell to Kirby Einck and Gloria Son, 6-4.
This set up a rubber match for the doubles point, where Rachel Horton (Stamford, Connecticut) and Sydney Young (Austin, Texas) took on Nancy Porter and Melanie Allen in the No. 1 draw. Quinnipiac pulled off the 6-4 win, giving the Bobcats an early 1-0 lead heading into singles play. The win was the duo's 17th victory this season, which is tops on the team.
However, Army would steal four straight singles matches to clinch the dual win.
In the No. 2 singles draw, Horton fell to Einck in straight sets, 6-1 and 6-1, to knot the contest at 1-1. Lohaphaisan then followed in a match against Bridget Guenard, where she lost in straight sets, 6-2 and 6-1. In the No. 6 draw, Nicole Katzarkov (Coral Gables, Florida) was unable to get past Hayley, as she fell in straight sets 6-2 and 6-3. Army clinched the win as Rencheli fell to Allen in straight sets in a tough matchup, 6-4 and 6-2.
Because of the clinching-style format, Young's match against Porter and Lu's match against McCormick both went unfinished.
The Bobcats will be back in action on Saturday, March 11, when Quinnipiac travels to Hempstead, New York to take on Hofstra at noon.
