
QU Women's Tennis Defeats Hofstra on the Road, 5-2

OCEANSIDE, New York - Quinnipiac women's tennis was able to cruise past Hofstra, 5-2 on the road, taking five straight points to win the match before the Pride could earn a point on Saturday afternoon at the Point Set Racquet Club.
With the win, Quinnipiac moves to 5-6 (3-0 MAAC) on the season, while Hofstra falls to 4-9.
The Bobcats' dominant senior trio of Sitilia Rencheli (Sarasota, Florida), Rachel Horton (Stamford, Connecticut) and Sydney Young (Austin, Texas) all earned two wins on the afternoon.
The day began with the No. 1 doubles draw, where Horton and Young defeated D'Asha Davis and Jasmine King, 6-0. The win was the duo's 18th of the season, which is tops on the team. Kelsi Oliphant (Calgary, Alberta) and Rencheli then teamed up in the No. 2 draw to cruise past Sarah Herndon and Disha Yellayi, 6-1 to clinch the doubles point, giving the Bobcats a 1-0 lead. In the No. 3 draw, Layla Rodriguez (Rancho Santa Margarita, California) and Proyfon Lohaphaisan (Santa Clarita, California) fell to Giulia Leone and Carmen Pestano, 6-4.
In the No. 3 singles draw, Horton was able to cruise past King in straight sets, defeating her 6-1 and 6-3. In the No. 1 draw, Rencheli was able to get past Davis, 6-4 and 6-4 in straight sets. In the No. 2 draw, Jennifer Lu (Cypress, California) defeated Herndon in straight sets, 7-6 (4) and 7-5. Lu's win gave Quinnipiac its fourth point of the day, clinching the win.
In the No. 4 draw, Young, the reigning MAAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week, coasted past Pestano in straight sets, 6-1 and 7-5. The win was Young's 30th of the season which is tops on the team.
Quinnipiac dropped the final two matches as Rodriguez fell to Yellayi in straight sets, 6-3 and 6-3. Amy Zammarieh (Trumbull, Connecticut) took Leone to three sets, but ultimately fell, 6-3, 2-6 and 11-9.
The Bobcats will be back in action on Tuesday, March 21, when Quinnipiac travels to take on the Providence Friars at 3 p.m.
