QU Softball Falls to Northern Colorado and Bryant in Doubleheader

NORTHRIDGE, California - The Quinnipiac softball team dropped two straight games against Northern Colorado, 10-0, and Bryant, 4-1, on the first day of play at the Cal State Northridge Tournament at the Matador Diamond on Friday afternoon.
With the losses, Quinnipiac falls to 6-11 on the young season.
The Bobcats were unable to score any runs in the first game against the Bears, but Rebecca Drake (Whiting, New Jersey) went 2-for-2 in the contest to lead the offense.
In the second game, Quinnipiac wasted no time getting on the board as they tallied a run in the first inning. Miranda Magana (Santa Paula, California) led the game off with a double, and Drake was able to single her home two batters later to give Quinnipiac a 1-0 lead.
However, that would be the only run that the Bobcats would muster on the afternoon.
Bryant tied the game in the bottom of the second, then tacked on two runs in the fourth then one more in the fifth to seal the win for the Bulldogs.
Abbey Long (Eau Claire, Wisconsin) got the start and gave up four runs in four innings of work. Casey Herzog (Wappingers Falls, New York) relieved Long and went two innings of shutout ball with two strikeouts.
The Bobcats will look to get back on track on Saturday, March 17, when Quinnipiac takes on Weber State on the second day of the Cal State Northridge Tournament. First pitch from Matador Diamond is set for 8:30 a.m. pacific (11:30 a.m. eastern).
