Kyle Larkin Posts Career High 16 Saves (11 in the First Half) in the Loss
DAVIS, California – The Quinnipiac women's lacrosse team dropped their opening contest in the team's first West Coast swing in nine years as the Bobcats fell to UC Davis, 19-7, from Aggie Stadium in California.
Meeting for the third time in the all-time series (first since 2008), the Bobcats weren't able to generate much on offense as the Aggies outshot Quinnipiac, 44-14. Junior goalkeeper Kyle Larkin (Holbrook, New York) did her best to keep her team in the game as she was blitzed from the opening whistle but she still managed to post a career high 16 saves in the cage. That 16-save total represents the highest single-game save total for a Bobcat since Samantha Tilts tallied 19 against Vermont on March 10, 2014.
Three Bobcats found the back of the net as Allison Kuhn (Kingsville, Maryland) led the way with three of the team's seven goals on the afternoon. Kuhn's first hat trick of the season gives her eight goals on the season, tied with freshman Ashley Bobinski (Kinnelon, New Jersey) for the team-lead as the rookie added three points (two goals, one assist) on the afternoon. Alex Hlesciak (Lumberton, New Jersey) chipped in two goals while Loren Antonacci (Smithtown, New York) and Ellie Swenson (Ipswich, Massachusetts) tallied one assist.
A pair of dominating runs powered the Aggies past the Bobcats as Quinnipiac netted the game's first goal on an unassisted Kuhn tally but UC Davis was quick to respond with a 5-0 run over a span of just three minutes as the led quickly swelled to 5-1.
Quinnipiac steadied over the next 20 minutes of back as both sides went back-and-forth while Larkin dominated the remainder of the first half, posting 11 of her career high 16 saves in the opening 30 minutes alone. Antonacci found Kuhn for a one-timer strike to put an end to the UC Davis run while Bobinski went to work, powering past her defender for a pair of Bobcat goals that helped make it 8-4 late in the first half.
The lead was still in range after Kuhn's third marker with 23:39 remaining as the Aggies led 12-6 but a clinching 7-0 run sealed the victory for UC Davis as Hlesciak managed to find the back of the net with two seconds to account for the final Bobcat goal on the day.
Amanda Outcalt (five goals, four assists) and Taylor Cuenin (four goals, three assists, five ground balls, seven draw controls, three caused turnovers) turned in excellent performances to lead the way for the Aggies who saw eight different players score at least one goal on the afternoon.
Quinnipiac continues their California spring break road swing with a Thursday night contest at Fresno State set to begin at 6:00 PM (EST).
