
QU Women's Tennis Falls to Massachusetts, 4-1

NORTH HAVEN, Connecticut – The Quinnipiac women's tennis team lost for the first time in three matches Friday afternoon as the Bobcats fell to the Massachusetts Minutewomen, 4-1, in a clinch-style format at the North Haven Health and Racquet Club.
Rachel Horton (Stamford, Connecticut) won the lone match of the day for her 37th win of the season and 79th of her career. Jennifer Lu (Cypress, California) played the best match of the day, as she nearly pulled off a win at No. 3 singles against Arielle Griffin. Lu was up 6-3, 5-3 when the match went unfinished due to the clinching win.
Massachusetts took the doubles point with two wins at No. 2 and No. 3. Griffin and Laura Moreno teamed up at No. 2 doubles to take down Lu and Proyfon Lohaphaisan (Santa Clarita, California), 6-2, and Brittany Collens and Ruth Crawford defeated Sophia Dzulynsky (Miramar, Florida) and Kelsi Oliphant (Calgary, Alberta), 6-2. Horton and Sydney Young (Austin, Texas) were unfinished against Ana Yrazusta and Carol Benito, trailing 5-3.
Horton's win came at No. 2 singles for the Bobcats against Yrazusta as it was retired with Horton trailing, 4-6, 4-3 but came away with the win. Dzulynsky fell at No. 1 singles for the Bobcats against Crawford, 6-2, 7-5. Massachusetts won the matches at No. 5 and No. 6 singles with Moreno defeating Lohaphaisan, 6-2, 6-1, and Collens defeating Alexandra Mircea (Glen Rock, New Jersey), 6-1, 6-1.
Lu's impressive match went unfinished just shy of a win while Young was unfinished against Benito where she trailed, 4-6, 3-3.
The Quinnipiac women's tennis team returns to action on Apr. 13 at 3:30 PM against the Monmouth Hawks in Hamden, Conn.
