QU Women's Tennis Advances to Third Straight MAAC Championship Match with 4-0 Sweep of Niagara

WEST WINDSOR, New Jersey – The Quinnipiac women's tennis team continued its dominance in the MAAC as they advanced to their third straight conference championship match with a 4-0 win over Niagara in the MAAC Semifinals on Saturday, April 30.
Quinnipiac also extended its winning streak to six games and tied its program record for wins in a season with 14 from both the 2014-15 and 2010-11 teams. Quinnipiac improved to 14-10 with the win while Niagara finished the season with a 9-12 record.
Jennifer Lu (Cypress, California) and Proyfon Lohaphaisan (Santa Clarita, California) each picked up two commanding wins in the match for the Bobcats. Lu now has 18 singles wins this season and 17 doubles wins for 35 victories. Lohaphaisan has been utterly dominant, winning 42 matches with 18 coming in singles and 24 in doubles.
Sitilia Rencheli (Sarasota, Florida) won the clinching match for the Bobcats in the 4-1 win, good for her 23rd win of the season and 10th singles wins. It is the first time in her career she has posted double-digit wins in singles and doubles.
Lu and Lohaphaisan set the tone of the match early in doubles as the cruised easily passed Shannon Wong and LeAnn Richert, 6-0. Sydney Young (Austin, Texas) and Rachel Horton (Stamford, Connecticut) picked up yet another doubles win together at No. 1 doubles for the Bobcats as they handled Haley Hollins and Sydnee Wheeler, 6-2, to clinch the doubles point.
With the win at doubles, Horton moves just two wins shy of tying Jacqueline Raynor's single-season program record for wins with 46. Horton also tied Michelle Dassa with 26 doubles wins for the second most doubles wins in a season in program history.
Lohaphaisan continued her dominance at No. 6 singles as she dropped the first game of the match but bounced back to defeat Richert in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0. Lu also had an easy match at No. 4 singles as she took on Wong and didn't drop a game 6-0, 6-0. Rencheli clinched the win for the Bobcats at No. singles as she breezed past Wheeler 6-2, 6-1.
The Quinnipiac women's tennis team will face the No. 3 seed Marist Red Foxes in the 2016 MAAC Championship beginning at 2 PM.
