QU Acrobatics & Tumbling Defeats Concordia on Senior Day, 281.75 - 250.07

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac acrobatics & tumbling team submitted a dominant performance over Concordia-Wisconsin on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Falcons, 280.75-250.07. The Bobcats swept all six events against the competition for the second time this season. With the result, Quinnipaic improved to 6-2 on the year while the Falcons fell to 2-4.
Prior to the meet, Quinnipiac's eight seniors – Stephanie Amaral (Stoughton, Massachusetts), Brooke Artz (Whitman, Massachusetts), Aleshia Ceste (Wallingford, Connecticut), Jordan Cavallaro (Bloomingdale, New Jersey), Demitra Germanakos (Massapequa, New York), Taylor Johnson (Foxboro, Massachusetts), Kayla McCormack (Hanson, Massachusetts) and Catherine Toma (Hackettstown, New Jersey) – were all recognized for their hard work and dedication to the program.
After having not competed in over two weeks, the Bobcats came out firing, taking a huge lead over the Falcons after the Compulsory round. QU captured all four heats including a 9.95 in the Pyramid followed by a perfect 10 in the Toss. Ten Bobcats all combined for the perfect score, their first 10 in the Toss heat this season. Quinnipiac took a 4.05 lead in the first event, defeating CUW, 38.45-34.40.
Quinnipiac extended their lead with a win in the Acro event, scoring a season-high 29.75 to the Falcons' 26.85. After scoring a 9.95 in the 6-Element heat, Kelsey Rule (Kendall Park, New Jersey), McCormack, Ceste and Alexandra Williams (Poughkeepsie, New York) all combined to capture a perfect 10 in the 7-Element.
In the final event before halftime, QU again secured a season-high mark, taking down Concordia with a near perfect score of 29.95. The Bobcats captured 10's in both the Flip and Release heats with a 9.95 in the Twist sandwiched in between. Ceste, Cavallaro, Germanakos, Amaral, Allee Tallman (Farmington, New York), Rule, Noelle Brasier (Simi Valley, California), and Paige Meyer (Patchogue, New York) combined for the perfect score in the first heat.
Out of the break, Quinnipiac never let up, putting up a season-high score for the third consecutive event. The Bobcats defeated the Falcons, 29.55-26.35 in the Toss event. QU put up back-to-back marks of 9.80 before submitting a 9.95 in the Open heat.
The Bobcats opened up their advantage heading into the Team event with a 56.00-47.05 victory in the Tumbling round. QU led 183.70-164.00 going into the final event. Both Alyssa O'Connor (Smithtown, New York) and Johnson recorded season-highs with monster scores in their respective Tumbling heats. O'Connor scored a 9.80 in the Aerial while Johnson added a 9.83 in the Open Pass.
Quinnipiac wrapped up the meet with their sixth event win. The Bobcats ousted Concordia University in the Team event, 98.05-86.07.
Up next, the Bobcats will compete in the NCATA Championships starting with the individual events on Saturday, April 16 at Baylor in Waco, Texas.
