QU Acrobatics & Tumbling Advances to NCATA Semifinals with Win over Fairmont State, 273.995-269.975

WACO, Texas – The Quinnipiac acrobatics and tumbling team advanced to the NCATA National Semifinals on Sunday afternoon with a comeback victory over the Fairmont State Falcons. The Bobcats trailed at the break, but captured the final four events to take the quarterfinal matchup, 273.995-269.975. With the result, QU improved to 7-2 on the year, earning the most wins in a season in program history.
The Falcons jumped out to a fast start in the quarterfinals, taking the first two events from the Bobcats. Fairmont State earned a .15 point lead over Quinnipiac after winning the Comulosry round, 37.85-37.70. QU won both the Pyramid (9.65) and Toss (9.90) heats, but could not overcome low scores in the Acro and Tumbling heats.
Fairmont State extended their advantage with a 28.55-27.50 victory in the Acro event. Quinnipiac took the Six-Element and Seven-Element heats, but scored just an 8.10 in the Five-Element. The Bobcats combined to produce a 9.85 in the middle heat and a 9.55 in the third heat.
Quinnipiac cut into the deficit heading into halftime with a 29.75-29.05 win in the Pyramid round, their first event victory of the day. The Bobcats swept the event, submitting huge scores in each heat. QU tallied marks of 9.90 in the Flip and Twist with a 9.95 in the Release heat. Alyssa O'Connor (Smithtown, New York), Allee Tallman (Farmington, New York), Demitra Germanakos (Massapequa, New York), Kayla McCormack (Hanson, Massachusetts), Aleshia Ceste (Wallingford, Connecticut), Stephanie Amaral (Stoughton, Massachusetts), Noelle Brasier (Simi Valley, California), Jordan Cavallaro (Bloomingdale, New Jersey) and Emily Lowenstein (Andover, Massachusetts) all combined to score the 9.95, the Bobcats' highest mark of the meet.
Out of the break, the Bobcats quickly took their first lead of the afternoon with a second consecutive win, defeating the Falcons, 28.30-27.70 in the Toss round. QU again swept the competition while registering a 9.55 in the Open heat. After winning the Synchronized heat in the Individual Event Finals with a 9.50 the day before, the Bobcats captured the same heat with a 9.40 against the Falcons on Sunday. QU held a .01 lead heading into the Tumbling event.
Quinnipiac extended their lead to 179.425-176.975 going into the final round with a win in the Tumbling round. The Bobcats captured four heats while tying FSU in the Aerial to secure the event, 55.175-53.825. Senior Taylor Johnson (Foxboro, Massachusetts) produced a season best score of 9.85 to take the Open Pass while teammate Alyssa O'Connor (Smithtown, New York) also scored a 9.575 for a tie in the Aerial. Both Johnson and freshman Jenna Capristo (Wolcott, Connecticut) combined efforts to win the Duo Pass with an 8.80.
Quinnipiac will face the two-seeded Oregon Ducks in the first semifinal tomorrow, Monday, April 18 at 6 p.m. ET. Oregon defeated Alderson Broaddus in the second quarterfinal to advance to the semis. The Bobcats fell to the Ducks by less than three points during the regular season.
