
QU Women’s Tennis Sweeps Niagara, 7-0, on Senior Day in 2015 MAAC Championship Rematch

Bobcats Move to 3-0 in the MAAC in 2015-16; 23-0 vs. MAAC Opponents Since Joining the Conference in 2013-14
NORTH HAVEN, Connecticut – The Quinnipiac women's tennis team cruised past Niagara, sweeping the Purple Eagles, 7-0, on Saturday afternoon at the North Haven Health and Racquet Club.
Quinnipiac made quick work of the Purple Eagles on Senior Day in what was the first matchup since these two sides met in the 2015 MAAC Championship, a match in which the Bobcats swept Niagara, 4-0, to take home a second consecutive MAAC title.
The impressive victory for the Bobcats (8-9, 3-0 MAAC) keeps them undefeated in conference play this season while also improving to a staggering 19-0 in league games since moving to the MAAC in 2013-14. Including MAAC Tournament matches, the Bobcats are 23-0 in matches against MAAC opponents since joining the new league coming from the Northeast Conference. The 7-0 sweep also marks the fifth time in 17 matches that Quinnipiac has swept an opponent 7-0. All three of the Bobcats' MAAC victories in 2015-16 have come via 7-0 sweep.
The Bobcats' lone senior Sophia Dzulynsky (Miramar, Florida) was dominant on Saturday, claiming two victories including a 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1 singles after teaming up with Sitilia Rencheli (Sarasota, Florida) for a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles. Dzulysnky has now compiled 104 career victories including 26 this season and 98 in her time as a Bobcat after spending her freshman campaign with Syracuse in 2012-13.
In the remainder of doubles play, Rachel Horton (Stamford, Connecticut) teamed up with Sydney Young (Austin, Texas) for a 6-2 victory in No. 1 doubles while Jennifer Lu (Cypress, California) and Proyfon Lohaphaisan (Santa Clarita, California) made quick work of Niagara as the Bobcat duo swept No. 3 doubles, 6-0.
Rencheli's second win of the day came in No. 3 singles as she defeated Sydnee Wheeler running away, 6-0 and 6-0. Horton made quick work of Haley Hollins at No. 2 singles, defeating the freshman from Niagara, 6-1 and 6-2. Young went to work in No. 5 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Sharlee Deshmukh to move her career win total to 91 in three seasons at Quinnipiac. A pair of Quinnipiac freshman – Lu and Lohaphaisan – sealed the Bobcats' sweep as Lu defeated Shannon Wong at No. 4 singles, 6-3 and 6-1, while Lohaphaisan claimed the victory at No. 6 singles over LeAnn Richert, 6-0 and 6-0.
Quinnipiac will be off for the next four days before resuming non-conference play on Thursday, April 7 at home against UMass at 3:00 PM.
