
QU Women's Tennis Sweeps Fairleigh Dickinson, 7-0, and Falls to Bucknell, 5-2, in Doubleheader Split

ORLANDO, Florida – The Quinnipiac women's tennis team pick up its first win of the spring season on Tuesday night in their second match of the day, sweeping Fairleigh Dickinson, 7-0, after falling to the Bucknell Bison earlier in the day, 5-2.
Quinnipiac's win against Fairleigh Dickinson improves the team to 5-7 this season, snapping a six-match losing streak that opened up the spring. Fairleigh Dickinson falls to 2-2 on the season with the loss while Bucknell improved to 4-2 with the win.
Jennifer Lu (Cypress, California), Rachel Horton (Stamford, Connecticut) and Sophia Rencheli (Miramar, Florida) all won three matches on the day for the Bobcats. Lu was the only Bobcat to record two singles wins to get her ninth singles win of the season and 18 wins this season.
Dzulynsky moved within three wins of 100 career victories as she won her 19th match of the season to improve to 14-5 in doubles play and pick up her fifth singles win of the season. Dzulynsky is looking to become the 20th player in program history and 16th at the Division I level to reach the 100-win mark. Horton's three wins pushes her over the 70 career win mark with her 29th win this season. With 12 wins in singles play, Horton set a new single-season career-high after passing last season's 11 singles wins.
Sydney Young (Austin, Texas), Sitilia Rencheli (Sarasota, Florida) and Proyfon Lohaphaisan (Santa Clarita, California) each won two matches in the day for the Bobcats while Alexandra Mircea (Glen Rock, New Jersey) and Kelsi Oliphant (Calgary, Alberta) each won one match. Oliphant's win against Fairleigh Dickinson was her first of the season and first since the 2013-14 season.
Quinnipiac got off to a fast start as the Bobcats took the singles point with a sweep against Bucknell. Horton and Sydney Young teamed up for the first time this season to defeat Maria Cioffi and Michele Urbinati, 6-4. Dzulynsky and Rencheli continue to dominate at No. 2 doubles as they won their fifth match of the season together, knocking off Lauren Fishbein and Lisa Jouravleva, 6-3. The final doubles match with Lu and Lohaphaisan against Stephanie Pino and Emilie Bush went unfinished with the Bobcats winning, 5-4, with the point in place.
Bucknell took over in singles play to win the match as Madeline Melch opened up with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Young. Dzulynsky and Fishbein nearly went to a third set but Fishbein edged out the win, 6-2, 7-5. Lu got a point back to make it 3-2 in the match with a three set win, 6-0, 3-6, 12-10. After Lu's win, the Bison took the final three matches. Horton nearly forced a third set against Jouravleva but fell short, 6-1, 7-5. Dzulynsky and Cioffi went to a third set at No. 1 singles in a hard fought match, but Cioffi pulled away with the win, 7-6 (4), 5-7, 10-7. Pino rounded out the match with a win against Mircea at No. 6 singles, 7-5, 5-7, 10-6.

Dzulynsky and Rencheli won their sixth doubles match of the season together as they breezed past Nicole Chis and Katarina Pavlovic at No. 2 doubles, 6-1. Shortly after, Lu and Lohaphaisan secured their No. 3 doubles victory against Liza Rachenko and Sabrina Helm, 6-2. With the doubles point secure, Horton and Young settled in for a long battled with Gisela Castany and Shreya Pasricha for the sweep, prevailing 7-6 (5).
Singles play was much of the same for the Bobcats. Oliphant picked up her first victory of the season with a 6-0, 6-0 blanking of Helm at No. 6 singles. Lohaphaisan also picked up a perfect set at No. 4 singles, defeating Castany 6-0, 6-3. Lu finished off her three-win day with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Pasricha at No. 3 singles followed by Horton's 7-6 (7), 6-1 win over Rachenko at No. 2 singles. Dzulynsky competed against Chis in the only three-set match between the two teams as she rallied to beat Chis, 7-6 (1), 5-7, 11-9. Mircea picked up the final win of the day for the Bobcats against Pavolovic, 7-5, 6-4, at No. 5 singles.

Both matches will be played in Kissimmee, Florida.
