
QU Acrobatics & Tumbling Wins Tri-Meet Over Alderson Broaddus and Fairmont State

PHILIPPI, W.V.- The Quinnipiac acrobatics and tumbling team defeated Alderson Broaddus and Fairmont State to take first place at the tri-meet in West Virginia. The Bobcats picked up their first two wins of 2016 with a winning total of 272.545. Fairmont State finished in second with a final score of 267.495, while Alderson Broaddus placed third, scoring 266.745 points. The Bobcats improved to 2-1 on the year while Fairmont State dropped to 0-1 and Alderson Broaddus fell to 3-1. Quinnipiac came back from a halftime deficit to take the final three events of the competition, winning the Toss, Tumbling and Team rounds.
Quinnipiac started off the meet quickly falling behind after scoring a 36.70 in the Compulsory event. The Bobcats were unable to capture any of the four heats, but scored a 9.70 in the Toss heat. The Alderson Broaddus Battlers took a 1.15 advantage over QU after the first event.
Quinnipiac took second in the Acro event with a 28.20 to the Battlers' 28.40. The Bobcats won the 5-Element heat with a 9.90, but it was still not enough to capture the event. Sophomore Abby Ziser (Pompton Plains, New Jersey), junior Allee Tallman (Farmington, New York), senior Kayla McCormack (Hanson, Massachussets) and junior Noelle Brasier (Simi Valley, California) combined for the huge score in the first heat.
In the Pyramid event, both Fairmont State and Alderson Broaddus outscored the Bobcats' total of 28.60. Quinnipiac secured a 9.70 in the Release heat, but sat in third place heading into the break. The Bobcats trailed the Battlers by 1.7 points and the Fighting Falcons by 0.45.
The Bobcats erased Fairmont State's lead and cut into Alderson Broaddus' advantage by winning the Toss heat with a 28.10. Quinnipiac captured both the 2-Element and Synchronized heats with scores of 9.60 and 9.10, respectively. In the first heat, sophomore Alyssa O'Connor (Smithtown, New York), senior Demitra Germanakos (Massapequa, New York), senior Aleshia Ceste (Wallingford, Connecticut), freshman Alexandra Williams (Poughkeepsie, New York) and sophomore Stephanie Van Albert (Silver Spring, Maryland) all combined efforts to score the 9.60.
Quinnipiac won four of the six heats in the Tumbling round to win the event with a 54.175 mark. For the second consecutive meet, senior Taylor Johnson (Foxboro, Massachusetts) took the Aerial Pass, scoring a 9.375 in the tri-meet.
The Bobcats wrapped up the competition winning the Team event for their third event victory on the day. Quinnipiac scored a 96.77, outscoring both opponents by over two points to complete the comeback win.
The Bobcats are back in action tomorrow, Sunday, Feb. 20. Quinnipiac will stay in West Virginia for a matchup with the Glenville State Pioneers at 1 p.m.
