
QU Men’s Tennis To Host Rider Saturday, Travel to UConn Sunday for First Duals of Season

OUR TURN TO HOST...
The Quinnipiac men's tennis team will have their first home match of the season as they play host to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference rival Rider on Saturday, Oct. 8, for its first dual of the season.
...THEN BACK ON THE ROAD
Following Saturday's contest, the Quinnipiac men's tennis team will travel to Storrs to take on the UConn Huskies on Sunday, Oct. 9, with a 1 P.M. match start.
SCOUTING THE BRONCS
The Broncs are off to a slow start to the 2016-17 season as they come to Hamden with an 0-3 (0-1 MAAC) record. Rider started off 0-1 when they traveled to Wagner and got swept on the day, 7-0. The Broncs then returned home for two matches, where they lost 6-1 to both MAAC opponent Siena and non-conference foe St. Francis Brooklyn.
LAST SEASON AGAINST THE BRONCS
The Bobcats won their only match against the Broncs last season, 7-0, which gave Quinnipiac its first MAAC win of the season and pushed its record to 2-0 at the time. Sophomore Julian Rozenstein (Marlboro, New Jersey) picked up his 50th career victory and 30th career singles win in the match. Kei Ezaka (Ojai, California) also reached a career milestone as she won his 80th career match that day.
LAST SEASON AGAINST THE HUSKIES
The Bobcats defeated the Huskies in their only matchup of the season, 6-1, giving Quinnipiac its first win of the season. Ezaka earned a singles victory on the day, which gave him 40 career singles wins at the time.
CT STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS RECAP
The freshman duo of Axel Stern (Tustin, California) and Austin Yannone (Severna Park, Maryland) were able to advance to the doubles championship at the Connecticut State Championships, but lost 6-3.
FEARSOME FOURSOME
Men's tennis four freshmen have continued their hot start for their collegiate careers. Patrick Cachapero (Loma Linda, California), Jackson Koke (Calgary, Alberta), Stern and Yannone have a combined 15-10 record in singles play and an 18-5 record in doubles play. Yannone and Stern have gone 5-2 with each other so far this season.
KING KEI
Senior Kei Ezaka is tied for first on the team in total wins on the season, with 10 victories.
...IN THE SHADOWS
However, Yannone, who is just a freshman is the one tied with Ezaka for total win on the season. Both Yannone and Ezaka boast a 10-3 record this year.
COMING UP NEXT
Following the weekend contests, the Quinnipiac men's tennis team will head to Jersey City, to take on MAAC rival Saint Peter's on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 3 P.M.
