
Rachel Horton Wins Three Matches, Advances to Singles and Doubles Semifinals at West Point Invite

West Point, N.Y. – Rachel Horton (Stamford, Connecticut) led the Quinnipiac women's tennis team with three individual victories and earned trips to two separate flight semifinals at the second day of the West Point Invite hosted by Army West Point.
With her three victories, Horton also reached the 50 career victories mark to improve her record to 51-23. This season, Horton is tied with doubles partner Proyfon Lohaphaisan (Santa Clarita, California) for the most doubles wins with nine as they are 9-3 as a team.
Horton and Lohaphaisan reached the Flight "A" doubles consolation semifinals with a pair of victories on Saturday. The Bobcats' duo faced a pair of MAAC opponents in the consolation round, cruising past the Saint Peter's double team of Malieva Hedberg and Lucia Radovic, 6-1, into the quarterfinals. Horton and Lohaphaisan moved on to face Marist's Ariel Shulman and Caroline Lozo, pulling away with the 6-4 victory. Horton and Lohaphaisan will face Isidora Pejovic and Alba Sala in the semifinals on Sunday.
In singles action, the success continued for Horton as she battled into the semifinals of the 2nd singles consolation bracket. After advancing past Claudia Hellman of Saint Peter's with a default win, Horton played a highly contested match with Lehigh's Jamie Campisi, pulling through in the tiebreaker to win the match, 8-7 (4). Horton will face NJIT's Ines Vujkovac in the semifinals.
Freshman Adrian Young (Orange Village, Ohio) also picked up a singles victory on the afternoon as she took the court in 4th singles consolation action. Young faced Bryant's Stefanie Arroyo in the first round and pulled away with the 8-6 victory. In the quarterfinals, Young faced Albany's Chassidy King and came up just short, 8-5.
Lohaphaisan and Alexandra Mircea (Glen Rock, New Jersey) were both still alive in singles main draw action on Saturday but lost in their Round of 16 matchups. Lohaphaisan faced off against the No. 5 seed Priyanka Shah from Cornell and fell in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2 in 2nd singles main draw action, The 3rd singles No. 8 seed Mircea faced a talented Pejovic from Albany, falling in their Round of 16 match, 6-2, 6-1.
In 1st singles consolation matches, Sophia Dzulynsky (Miramar, Florida) and Jennifer Lu (Cypress, California) each fell in their tough first round matchups. Dzulynsky faced the host Army West Point's Gabriella Spindler as the two dueled into a long tiebreaker to decide the match, with Spindler just edging away, 8-7 (5). Lu drew NJIT's Nathalie Habegger in her first round match, falling in consolation match, 8-5.
