
QU Men's Tennis' Roser and Zaretsky in Flight "B" Doubles, van Biezen in Flight "B" Singles Finals at Connecticut State Championship

New Haven, Conn. – The Quinnipiac men's tennis team had another successful day at the Connecticut State Championship hosted by Yale University as the doubles team of Luke Roser (Bernardsville, New Jersey) and Freddie Zaretsky (Fair Lawn, New Jersey) reached the Flight "B" finals and Willem van Biezen (Warmond, The Netherlands) earned a spot in the Flight "B" singles finals scheduled for Sunday.
Roser and Zaretsky continued to play well together in doubles this weekend, winning their third straight match to reach the Flight "B" finals. The duo faced Zac McEntee and Hank Hill in the semifinals and came away with the strong 6-2 victory over the UConn duo. Roser and Zaretsky will faced Sacred Heart's Anthony Savio and Derek Chapman in the finals on Sunday.
Jonas Kuwert (Jesteberg, Germany) and Willem van Biezen (Warmond, The Netherlands) nearly won their semifinal match in Flight "A" against Hartford's William Drumwright and Bryan Einstoss in a long tiebreaker, 7-6 (6).
In other doubles action, Kyle Alper (Dix Hills, New York) and Julian Rozenstein (Marlboro, New Jersey) faced Marist's Carlos Moreno and Timo Tanzer but fell in back draw action, 7-5.
In singles, van Biezen made up for the loss by advancing to the Flight "B" finals. Opening up the day, van Biezen took on Fairfield's Peter Colliard and cruised to the 6-1, 6-1 straight set victory. Van Biezen continued on into the semifinals as he defeated Marist's Carlos Moreno, 6-2, 6-3. Van Biezen moves on to face another Marist foe in Dylan Fletcher in Sunday's finals.
Ryoma Haraguchi (New York, New York) was still alive for the Bobcats in Flight "B" singles action as well, facing Fletcher in his quarterfinal matchup. Haraguchi put up a tough fight in the first set but Fletcher pulled away in the second to win, 7-6 (2), 6-2.
The Bobcats had several players competing in back draw singles match play match ups, picking up four victories on the afternoon. Zaretsky and Rozenstein each went 2-0 in singles play for the Bobcats to lead the team in singles victories.
Zaretsky opened up competition against Harvard's Michael Peters and after a tough second set, pulled through with the big win, 6-2, 6-7 (4), 10-3. Later in the afternoon, Zaretsky won once again as he faced Marist's Tanzer, winning in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.
Rozenstein picked up the other two victories for the Bobcats has he faced Fairfield's Ofir Solomon in his first singles match of the day, winning in three sets, 6-3, 1-6, 10-7. After some time off in Flight "A" back draw action, Rozenstein returned to the court against Harvard's Samuel Beren, winning in two sets, 6-4, 6-3.
Kei Ezaka (Ojai, California) faced off against Beren earlier in the afternoon in a long, three-set matchup between the Bobcat and the Crimson, with Beren pulling through, 5-7, 7-5, 10-8. Roser took on Marist's Max Darrington as the Bobcats and Stags continue to face off in tournaments, with Roser coming up just short, 6-4, 3-6, 10-8 after forcing a third set. Alper also competed in Flight "A" action for the Bobcats as he fell to Yale's Jason Brown, falling 6-2, 6-0 in his only singles match of the day.
Ben Teicher (Kendall Park, New Jersey) nearly forced a third set in his Flight "B" back draw action but lost to Hartford's Harrison Max, 6-3, 7-5. Haraguchi was seeking to reach the Flight "B" semifinals in singles action but came up just short against UConn's Parker Goldstein, 6-3, 6-3.
The Quinnipiac men's tennis team returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 20 with a chance to win two flights as van Biezen will face Fletcher in the Flight "B" singles finals and Roser and Zaretsky will face Savio and Chapman in the Flight "B" doubles finals.
