
QU Acrobatics & Tumbling Takes First Place in Tri-Meet with Alderson Broaddus and King University

Philippi, West Virginia – The Quinnipiac University acrobatics and tumbling team took first place in a tri-meet with King University and Alderson Broaddus on Saturday afternoon. The Bobcats won five of the six events and finished with a total score of 269.830 while Alderson Broaddus tallied 264.875 for second place and King University recorded 246.490 points. With the win, Quinnipiac improves to 4-3 on the season while the Battlers fall to 5-4 and the Tornado drop to 3-5.
Quinnipiac led the entire meet, winning the Compulsory, Acro, Pyramid, Toss, and Tumbling event before Alderson Broaddus was able to take the Team event. The Bobcats took a slight advantage over the Battlers in the Compulsory event with a score of 37.85 to the opposition's 37. QU scored a perfect 10 in the pyramid heat to jump out to the lead and they never looked back.
After winning the Acro event, the Bobcats posted back-to-back scores of 9.70 in the second and third heats of the Pyramid event. A score of 29.35 gave Quinnipiac 96.04 points at half time and a slight lead of just under two points. Alderson Broaddus held a score of 94.30 and King trailed at 92.55 heading into the break.
The Bobcats never let up in the second half, winning two of the three Toss heats and five of the six Tumbling heats. With a start value of 28.70, Quinnipiac finished the Tumbling event with 27.90 points. The Battlers were able to edge QU in the aerial pass, but the Bobcats won the duo, triple, quad, 6-element and open passes. Sophomore Kelsey Rule (Kendall Park, New Jersey) put up a huge score of 9.775 in the 6-element pass for the highest of any tumbling heat. Alderson Broaddus scored just 8.825 points while King registered 8.475 in the 6-element pass. Junior Taylor Johnson (Foxboro, Massachusetts) improved to 6-1 this season in the open pass with a score of 9.575.
The Battlers were able to win the Team event with a score of 92.35, but it was not enough to take the overall meet lead. Quinnipiac scored 91.79 points and took their first tri-meet of the season. The Bobcats are now 4-2 in tri-meets this season after finishing second against Concordia and Baylor and in a home meet with Alderson Broaddus and Hawai'i Pacific.
Up next, the Bobcats will take on Gannon University in their final competition before the NCATA National Championships. Quinnipiac will travel to Hammermill Center in Erie, Pennsylvania for a matchup with Gannon on Saturday, April 11 at 2 p.m. The individual events for the NCATA Championships will take place on Thursday, April 23 while the team events will take place on Friday and Saturday in Fairmont, West Virginia at Fairmont University.
