
QU Acrobatics & Tumbling Concludes Regular Season With Victory Over Gannon

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac University acrobatics and tumbling team finished their regular season with their highest score of the year and a victory over Gannon on Saturday afternoon. The Bobcats defeated the Golden Knights, 276.360-263.385, winning five of the six events. With the result, Quinnipiac finished 5-3 overall on the season heading into the NCATA National Championships.
The Bobcats jumped out to a quick start by capturing the Compulsory Event with 38.40 points to Gannon's score of 37.10. After recording a 9.45 in the Acro heat, Quinnipiac put up a perfect 10 in the Pyramid for the second consecutive meet. They followed with an impressive 9.90 in the Toss and a 9.05 in the Tumbling heat.
In the Acro event, Quinnipiac scored a 29.40 out of a start value of 29.99. The Bobcats registered scores of 9.90 in the 5-Element, 9.80 in the 6-Element and 9.70 in the 7-Element heat. Heading into the Pyramid event, QU led the opposition by 1.5 points.
Gannon captured their first and only event in the Pyramid with a score of 29.65 off the help of back-to-back 9.95's in the flip and twist heats. With a result of 29.50, Quinnipiac led by 1.35 points heading into the break. The Bobcats finished the event with scores of 9.95 in the flip, 9.75 in the twist and 9.80 in the release.
Quinnipiac really opened up their lead in the second half by winning all three events. They outscored the Golden Knights by two in the Toss with 28.80 points. The Bobcats tallied a nearly perfect score in the open heat of 9.85 out of a possible 9.90.
In the Tumbling event, the Bobcats combined to tally an overall result of 54.700. Junior Brooke Artz (Whitman, Massachusetts) scored a 9.350 in the aerial pass out of a start value of 9.60. Sophomore Kelsey Rule (Kendall Park, New Jersey) and junior Taylor Johnson (Foxboro, Massachusetts) both put up their highest scores of the season in their tumbling passes. Rule scored a 9.850 in the 6-Element pass while Johnson improved to 6-1 on the season with a 9.850 in the open pass.
Quinnipiac outscored Gannon 95.56 to 89.91 in the Team event and 179.060 to 167.435 in the second half. Up next up for Quinnipiac will be the NCATA National Championships at Fairmont University. The Bobcats will compete in the individual events on Thursday, April 23 followed by the team competition on Friday and Saturday in West Virginia. Last season, Quinnipiac fell to Azusa Pacific in the semifinals, 284.725-278.140.
