
QU Acrobatics & Tumbling Finishes in Second Place at Tri-Meet with Hawai'i Pacific and Alderson Broaddus

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac acrobatics and tumbling team took second place in a tri-meet between the Alderson Broaddus Battlers and Hawai'i Pacific Sharks on Tuesday night. After leading going into the final event, the Bobcats (2-3) were unable to hold on as the Sharks (2-1) came out victorious with an overall total of 275.590. QU finished with 274.700 points while the Battlers (2-2) totaled 256.710. Quinnipiac won the Toss and Tumbling Events outright to take the lead heading into the Team Event.
The Bobcats tied the Sharks in two of the three events before halftime. In the opening Compulsory Event, Quinnipiac and HPU captured scores of 37.15 while the Battlers finished with a score of 36.35. QU took the second and third heats with scores of 9.95 and 9.80, but came up short to the Sharks in the Acro and Tumbling heats.
Hawai'i Pacific won the Acro Event outright with a score of 29.30 to the Bobcats' 28.35 and 28.10 for Alderson Broaddus. In the 5-Element heat, freshman Abby Ziser (Pompton Plains, New Jersey), sophomore Alle Tallman (Farmington, New York), freshman Grace Manthey (Anchorage, Alaska) and freshman Jenna Adams (Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey) combined to secure 9.70 points which tied the Sharks' score.
In the Pyramid Event, again the Bobcats and Sharks put up identical scores. The Battlers followed the first place score of 29.45 with a 27.55. In the first two heats, Quinnipiac scored back-to-back 9.95s but HPU completed a perfect 10 in the Twist heat. Going into the break, Pacific led the meet by just .95 over QU with a 94.95 total. The Bobcats and Battlers followed with scores of 94.95 and 92.00, respectively.
After scoring consecutive 9.0s, the Bobcats were able to put up a 9.75 in the third heat to take the Toss Event. Quinnipiac scored a 27.75 to edge the Sharks' 27.70 while the Battlers added 24.50 points. Kelsey Rule (Kendall Park, New Jersey), Christine Rochester (Waterford, Connecticut), Kayla McCormack (Hanson, Massachusetts), Noelle Brasier (Simi Valley, California) and Brittany Kusmierski (Omaha, Nebraska) all combined efforts in the open heat for the 9.75.
Quinnipiac followed up the Toss win by taking the overall meet lead with a victory in the Tumbling Event. The Bobcats won four of the six heats including the duo pass, triple pass, aerial pass, and 6-Element pass heats. Junior Brooke Artz (Whitman, Massachusetts) scored a 9.4 in the aerial heat while Rule put up a huge score of 9.7 in the 6-Element pass, outscoring the Sharks by 4.5 points.
With a slight lead of .20 over Hawai'i Pacific, it all came down to the Team Event. The Sharks were able to take the Team Event and the overall victory with a score of 99.29. Quinnipiac finished with 98.20 points about one shy of taking home first place. Alderson Broaddus rounded out the final event with a score of 91.71.
Next up for the Bobcats, they will travel to Rex Pyles Arena, the home of the Battlers in Philippi, West Virginia. Alderson Broaddus will host a tri-meet between the Bobcats and King University on Saturday, March 28 at 1 p.m.
