With the result, the Bobcats dropped to 1-2 on the year while the Ducks improved to 3-0. Quinnipiac took one out of six events from Oregon, but trailed by less than one point heading into halftime. The Ducks have won the last four consecutive NCATA Championships.
In front of a record crowd of 1,587 at the TD Bank Sports Center, the Bobcats celebrated their senior class prior to the contest. The Quinnipiac athletics department and head coach Mary Ann Powers recognized Casey Block (Oceanside, New York), Stephanie Crosson (Ridgefield Park, New Jersey), Nicollette Hemmer (Manlius, New York), Rachel Leahy (Poughkeepsie, New York), Stephanie Palange (West Springfield, Massachusetts), Jenna Quenneville (New Hyde Park, New York), Christine Rochester (Waterford, Connecticut) and Cara Seckinger (Danbury, Connecticut).
Oregon jumped out to a quick start winning the compulsory event and securing three of the first four heats. Fifteen Bobcats combined to score a 9.90 to capture the pyramid heat, but faced a 37.60-37.10 deficit following the first event.
In the acro event, the Ducks again took two of the three heats. In the 5 element heat, Abby Ziser (Pompton Plains, New Jersey), Grace Manthey (Anchorage, Alaska), and Jenna Adams (Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey) combined to score a 9.75, outscoring the Ducks' 9.70. The Bobcats were able to capture the pyramid event right before halftime to cut down the Ducks' advantage. Quinnipiac won the first and third heats on two scores of 9.80. The pyramid results gave Oregon a total first half score of 95.10, a .86 lead over the Bobcats' 94.24.
Coming out of the break, QU was unable to capitalize on their momentum, losing the final three events. In the toss event, the Ducks won the element and synchronized heats with scores of 9.50 and 9.20. Kelsey Rule (Kendall Park, New Jersey), Rochester, Kayla McCormack (Hanson, Massachusetts), Noelle Brasier (Simi Valley, California) and Brittney Kusmierski (Omaha, Nebraska) combined to tie Oregon's score of 9.35 in the open heat.
