
QU Softball Falls To UNC Charlotte (11-1) and Ohio (15-5) At First Pitch Classic

The Quinnipiac University softball team lost both of its games on the second day of the First Pitch Classic hosted by the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. The Bobcats dropped an 11-1 decision to UNC Charlotte before falling to Ohio, 15-5. The two losses drop Quinnipiac to 1-3 on the young season.
Molly Jarrett (Northport, New York) and Nikki Barba (San Diego, California) paced the Bobcats on the second day, each collected three hits over two games while both connecting on their first home runs of the season. Jarrett was 1-for-2 against UNC Charlotte before going 2-for-2 with a home run in the second game. Barba was 2-for-2 with a walk against the 49ers before going 1-for-3 with a two-run homer against Ohio. Through the first four games of the season, Jarrett leads the team with a .571 (4-for-7) average while Barba checks-in at .417 (5-for-12) while leading the team in hits (5), home runs (1), RBI (4) and runs scored (2).
Against UNC Charlotte, Quinnipiac's lone run of the game came in the second inning when freshman Miranda Magana (Santa Paula, California) was hit by a pitch to start the inning. After the next two batters were retired, Magana scored from first on a throwing error by UNC Charlotte's third baseman on a ground ball by Abby Johnson (Chelmsford, Massachusetts).
Against Ohio, Quinnipiac trailed 4-0 before a three-run fourth inning pulled the Bobcats within a run. Casey Herzog (Wappingers Falls, New York) led off with a single blasted a two-run homer to left to cut Ohio's lead in half, 4-2. After Dani Edmands (Northborough, Massachusetts) and Magana were retired, Jarrett connected with a bomb down the left field line to make it 4-3.
Quinnipiac taked on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth, but not after scored 11 runs over the final two innings to take a 15-3 lead. In the sixth, Syndey Robey (Glenmoore, Pennsylvania) drove in Keilani Finley (Alameda, California) and Kathryn Vitale (Cheshire, Connecticut).
Quinnipiac will wrap-up its trip to Charlotte, North Carolina with a non-conference match-up against Army on Sunday, Feb. 15 at 1 p.m.
