Baseball Dominates Furman for Impressive 8-2 Win

Vulgamore, Kohn Homer and Bobcats' Pitching Quiets Paladins
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Evan Vulgamore (Bow, New Hampshire) drove in three RBIs with a double and a two-run home run Tuesday night as the Quinnipiac baseball team dominated the Furman Paladins, 8-2, at Latham Stadium.
The Bobcats scored five runs in the first three innings to jump out to an early 5-1 lead and the Quinnipiac pitching staff shut down the Furman hitters, allowing just three hits, in solid team victory over the Paladins.
Vulgamore launched a two-run home run just two batters into Tuesday's game to take a 2-0 lead and the Bobcats never looked back en route to the win. Dylan Lutz (Denver, Colorado) scored on a wild pitch in the second inning and Andre Marrero (West Springfield, Massachusetts) scored on a throwing error as he stole third to double the early lead.
Michael Kohn (Rockville, Maryland) continued his early tear as he lifted a home run to left centerfield for his third of the season in the third inning before the Bobcats added three runs in the sixth and ninth innings with two outs in each inning.
Arthur Correira (Rehoboth, Massachusetts) was solid in his fourth start of the season as he allowed just one unearned run on two hits with two strikeouts in five innings before giving way to Nick Paasch (Tolland, Connecticut) and Robert Lewis (Seaford, New York) who combined to strike out eight batters in four innings.
Lewis had one of the most impressive innings of the night as he struck out the side in the bottom of the eighth inning on just 11 pitches against the Paladins.

FIRST INNING
- Kyle Maves (Burlington, Ontario) led off the game with a single to centerfield before Vulgamore blasted his third home run of the season to take a 2-0 lead just two batters into the game.
- Lutz led off the inning with a double down the right field line and advanced to third on a fielding error as the right fielder tried to field the ball.
- Lutz then came home to score on a wild pitch to take a 3-0 lead before Marrero singled to right field
- Marrero advanced to second on a wild pitch during the next at-bat and later stole third and scored on a throwing error by the catcher trying to throw him out at third.
- Kohn launched a 1-1 pitch over the left field fence to give the Bobcats a 5-1 lead over the Paladins, his third home run of the season.
- Marrero tripled to right center field with one out in the inning.
- With two outs, Braydon Seaburg (Stratford, Connecticut) singled to left field to score Marrero easily from third base.
- Maves reached on a fielding error with two outs in the top of the ninth inning and advanced to third on a failed pickoff attempt by the Furman pitcher.
- Vulgamore brought him home with a double through the left side of the infield before scoring on an Ian Ostberg (Northampton, Massachusetts) single up the middle.
- Vulgamore led the Bobcats with three RBIs on a 2 for 5 night as he hit his third home run of the season and doubled
- He now has hits in seven of his last eight games and now has 10 runs scored and 11 RBIs this season
- Kohn extended his hitting streak to seven games as he launched his third home run of the season Tuesday night.
- In Kohn's seven-game hitting streak, all eight hits have gone for extra bases with five doubles and three home runs.
- Lutz tied for the team lead with two hits and ripped his third double of the season, and second in as many games.
- Marrero had two hits in a game for the first time this season as he tripled and singled
- Marrero also stole a base and scored two runs, his third game with two-plus runs this season.
- Seaburg went 1 for 4 and singled home his third career RBI.
- Maves led off the game with a single and scored two runs for the Bobcats as he came around to score two runs for the second time this season
- Correira earned his first win of the season as he allowed just one unearned run on two hits with two strikeouts.
- Correira's five inning performance was his longest of the season.
- Paasch pitched two innings and struck out three batters Tuesday, his first three-strikeout appearance since doing so at Campbell on Feb. 24, 2017 as a first year
- Lewis was dominant in the final two innings as he struck out a career-high five batters of the seven he faced, and struck out the side on just 11 pitches in the eighth inning.
- The Bobcats travel south to Kennesaw, Georgia, where they will take on the Kennesaw State Owls Wednesday night with first pitch set for 5 p.m. at Stillwell Baseball Stadium.
