HANOVER, N.H. — The Quinnipiac outdoor track and field team saw its 4x800 relay team earn a third-place finish in its final event of the 2018 New England Championships on Saturday afternoon at Dartmouth College.
The team of Ahmetra Davies, Brooke Hagen, Jillian DiGiacinto and Meghan Curtin crossed the finish line in 9:13.18, behind only New Hampshire and Rhode Island, in unseasonably cold and damp conditions in Hanover. The Bobcats had a comfortable distance of over three seconds between themselves and fourth-place Northeastern (9:16.76).
Curtin added to her strong afternoon by setting a new personal best in the 800 meters with a 2:14.78, which places her seventh in Quinnipiac history. Her old top time in the 800 came during indoor season at the MAAC Championships in New York City on Feb. 18. Davies also set a new personal best in the 800 with a 2:16.38, edging her previous top mark by .11.
The other highlights for the Bobcats on Saturday at the New England Championships came in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Sophomore Morgan Voight won her heat in 11:14.20, taking 23 seconds off her personal best, which she set earlier this season at the Stony Brook Invitational, and moving into eighth place all-time at Quinnipiac.
Maria Ricalton earned an eighth-place finish in the steeplechase with an 11:08.08, just off her personal best of 11:05.99 set last week at the MAAC Championships, to join junior Carly Timpson (high jump, hammer throw) on the list of individual point scorers for the Bobcats at the New Englands. Freshman Shaelyn Pacheco added her personal best in the steeplechase with an 11:28.74 and moved into 10th place on Quinnipiac's list.
Quinnipiac will conclude its busy weekend tomorrow at the ECAC Championships at Princeton University. Senior Jessica Lee (100-meter hurdles), junior Marlo Wehrer (400-meter hurdles), senior Christina Barbaro (400-meter hurdles), junior Carly Timpson (high jump) and senior Mackenzie Merkel (discus) will be in action as they try to qualify for the NCAA Regionals later this month.
