ANNAPOLIS, Md. — The Quinnipiac women's golf team finished in third place overall at the difficult two-day Navy Spring Invitational, which was played in tough conditions that kept scores high.
Yale captured the team title with a two-day 650, seven shots ahead of Towson and 16 ahead of the Bobcats in third. Yale's Julie Luo won the individual title despite shooting an 82 on Saturday, as her 73 on Friday was by far the best round in the field on either day.
Freshman Queenie Lai earned her way into the top 10 for the Bobcats for the fourth straight tournament. Lai, who has been the MAAC Women's Golfer of the Week in each of the last three weeks she has competed, finished in 10th place out of 59 golfers by moving up 14 spots on Saturday with an 80.
Junior Julia Kemmling was right behind Lai in a tie for 11th place after shooting an 82 on Saturday, while sophomore Alexandra Sazhin finished tied for 13th after also shooting an 82 in her second round. Quinnipiac's third-place finish as a team marked the fourth tournament in a row where it has finished in the top four, after also earning spots near the top of the field at the Benbow Invitational (third), the Low Country Intercollegiate (third) and the Babs Steffens Hatter Collegiate (fourth).
Quinnipiac will be back in action in two weeks when it travels to Disney to participate in the MAAC Championships, where the Bobcats will try to defend their title and return to the NCAA Championships again this year.
