NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Senior Leah Pfrommer broke her own three-year-old school record in the long jump with a jump of 5.87 meters to earn an automatic qualification to the ECAC Championships on her Senior Day to highlight the performance of the Quinnipiac outdoor track and field team on Sunday at the Yale Springtime Invitational.
Pfrommer's 5.87 meters exceeded her personal best of 5.82, which she set as a freshman at Rider in 2015. She finished in first place in Sunday's meet, joining junior Carly Timpson (high jump), senior Mackenzie Merkel (discus) and junior Emily Dryzgula (javelin) among the first-place finishers for the Bobcats at the Yale Springtime Invitational, the final meet for the Bobcats before next weekend's MAAC Championships.
Timpson finished in first place in the high jump with a top clearance of 1.66 meters, just off her school outdoor record of 1.70 meters, which she set last year. She cleared her first four jumps on the first try before missing three times at 1.73 meters. Timpson also earned an ECAC qualification in the hammer throw with 52.30 meters, placing her second in the event (first among Division I competitors).
Merkel finished in first place in the discus with a throw of 39.98 meters, the second-longest throw of her career behind the 40.99 she had two weeks ago at the Tiger Track Classic at Auburn. Sophomore Kelsey Coughlin tied her own record in the pole vault with a 3.25-meter vault, while Dryzgula won the javelin with 34.85 meters.
Senior Christina Barbaro was the top collegiate finisher in the 400 meters with a time of 59.37 seconds, making her one of only three runners in the field to cross the line in under a minute. Unattached runner Sydnee Over came in first with a 57.64, while Barbaro was just ahead of Debbie Boerke of Marist with a 59.58.
Sophomore Meghan Curtin was second in the 800 meters with a 2:16.33, behind only Sydney Groom of Columbia (2:15.52). Sophomore Ahmetra Davies (2:18.89, sixth) and senior Darby Ginley (2:22.91, ninth) were also in the top 10 for the Bobcats.
Two Bobcats placed in the top 10 in the 100 meters, with freshman Abby Frank coming in fourth place at 12.57 seconds and Pfrommer ending in ninth at 12.93. Sophomore Melissa Solomon was ninth in the 200 at 26.64 seconds, while Frank was 12th at 26.77.
