
QU Women's Tennis Advances to Fourth-Straight MAAC Championship After 4-0 Win over Fairfield

WEST WINDSOR, New Jersey - The Quinnipiac women's tennis team continued its dominance against MAAC opponents, as it as advanced to its fourth straight MAAC Tournament championship match after defeating Fairfield, 4-0 in the MAAC Semifinals on Saturday, April 29.
With the win, the top-seeded Bobcats improve to 13-8 (8-0 MAAC), while Fairfield ends its season at 9-12 (5-3 MAAC). The win extends Quinnipiac's unbeaten MAAC streak to 37 straight matches, having not lost a match since joining the conference in the 2013-14 season.
Jennifer Lu (Cypress, California) earned two victories on the day and improved her record to 14-0 against MAAC opponents this season.
The duo of Layla Rodriguez (Rancho Santa Margarita, California) and Lu set the tone early for the Bobcats, picking up a quick win in the No. 3 doubles match over Shelby Vertula and Diana Prinos, 6-1. The win was the duo's 10th of the season, pushing the All-MAAC First Team doubles duo to 10-0 on the season.
Sitilia Rencheli (Sarasota, Florida) and Kelsi Oliphant (Calgary, Alberta) closed doubles play with a win over Karen McKeough and Emily Lombardi, 6-2 in the No. 2 doubles match. The win was the 10th for the duo and pushes the All-MAAC First Team doubles duo to 10-0 as well. Due to clinching-style format, Sydney Young (Austin, Texas) and Rachel Horton (Stamford, Connecticut) didn't finish their No. 1 match against Sarah Stuhlmann and Nicole Arogones. However, the Bobcat duo was leading 4-3 when the match was called.
Holding a 1-0 lead heading into singles play, Quinnipiac was able to maintain momentum by taking three straight matches to claim victory.
Lu earned a win in the No. 2 singles match over Arogones in straight sets, 6-1 and 6-0. The win was Lu's 16th singles victory of the season and pushed her record against MAAC competition to 8-0 in singles play.
Horton followed in No. 3 singles match with a sweep over Prinos in straight sets, 6-1 and 6-3. The singles win was Horton's 17th on the season which is tied for second most on the team and improved her singles record against MAAC opponents to 7-0.
Young closed the match for Quinnipiac with a sweeping win over Jessica Pil, 6-0 and 7-5, securing the victory for the Bobcats. The win was Young's 18th in singles play, which is tops on the team. It was also Young's eighth victory against MAAC opponents in singles play, pushing her record to 8-0.
Due to clinching-style format, multiple matches went unfinished. Rencheli was leading over Stuhlmann in the No. 1 singles match, 6-3 and 3-3 before the match was called. Rodriguez and Vertula split the first two sets, 3-6 and 6-3 before the match was called during a 1-1 tie in the final set. Proyfon Lohaphaisan (Santa Clarita, California) was leading over Lombardi, 6-2 and 4-4 before the match was called.
The Bobcats will be back in action on Sunday, April 30, when it takes on No. 2 Siena at 10 a.m., for a chance to secure its fourth-straight MAAC Tournament Championship.
