
QU Acrobatics & Tumbling Advances To NCATA Semifinals With Come-From-Behind Win

AZUSA, California – The Quinnipiac University acrobatics & tumbling team came from behind to defeat Alderson Broaddus, 270.645-264.755, to advance to the National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association National Championship Tournament Semifinals.
"I'm very proud of this team and how they competed today," head coach Mary Ann Powers said. "I'm proud of how they have set themselves up for the semifinals. They are ready to go and we're looking forward to representing Quinnipiac and the ECAC with pride."
Quinnipiac opened with wins in the Compulsory Acro Heat and the Toss Heat, but Alderson Broaddus took the Compulsory Event, 38.20-37.65. The Bobcats answered with a win in the Acro Event, 29.10-28.95, after taking the Five-Element Heat, 9.8-9.75, and the Six-Element Heat, 9.75-9.55. The Battlers then capitalized on a Quinnipiac slip-up in the Synchronized Heat to win the Pyramid Event, 29.15-26.65, to take a 96.30-93.40 lead into halftime.
"We were really great today," senior captain Kelsey Rule said. "We had some issues early, but I'm proud of how the team responded, picked up their energy level and finished strong. Everyone was great and we're excited for tomorrow."
Coming out of the half, Quinnpiac battled back to take the Toss Event, 28.85-27.70, sweeping all three heats. They then won five of the six heats to win the Tumbling Event, 95.07-89.43. Heading into the Team Event, Quinnipiac clung to a slim lead, 175.575-175.325. In their previous meeting, Quinnipiac posted its highest Team Event score of the season against Alderson Broaddus. The Bobcats once-again dominated with a 95.07 to AB's 89.43 to pull out the 270.645-264.755 win.
"We proved out mental strength and showed that we're able to compete at our best under any circumstance," senior captain Noelle Brasier said. "I'm really proud of everyone."
Quinnipiac is back in action on Friday, Apr. 28 at 12 PM PST//3 PM EST when they face the winner of the match-up between Baylor and Gannon in the NCATA Semifinals. This will mark the second-straight year that the Bobcats advance to the second round of the tournament.
