
QU Women's Tennis Sweeps Monmouth on the Road, 7-0

WEST LONG BRANCH, New Jersey - The Quinnipiac women's tennis team returned to action on Sunday, April 23, to sweep MAAC foe Monmouth on the road, 7-0.
With the win, Quinnipiac improves to 11-8 (6-0 MAAC), while Monmouth falls to 5-13 (1-6 MAAC). With the win over Monmouth, including MAAC Tournament matches, the Bobcats are now 35-0 in matches against MAAC opponents since joining the new league coming from the Northeast Conference in the 2013-14 season.
The Bobcats' six players of Sitilia Rencheli (Sarasota, Florida) Proyfon Lohaphaisan (Santa Clarita, California), Jennifer Lu (Cypress, California), Rachel Horton (Stamford, Connecticut), Sydney Young (Austin, Texas) and Layla Rodriguez (Rancho Santa Margarita, California) all recorded two wins on the day.
The day began with the No. 2 doubles match, where Rencheli and Lohaphaisan teamed up for the first time this season and were able to coast past Chioma Gabriel and Alexandra Graff, 6-0. Horton and Young followed to secure the doubles point for Quinnipiac with a 6-0 win over Adriana Armendariz and Maria Ivanova, 6-0. The win was the duo's 23rd of the season, which is tops on the team. Rodriguez and Lu closed doubles play with a 6-1 win over Kendal Kauffman and Caroline Mattise. The win keeps the duo undefeated on the season, moving their record to 8-0.
Quinnipiac took a 1-0 lead into singles play and didn't look back, winning the next six matches in sweeping fashion.
Lu defeated Graff in straight sets, 6-1 and 6-1 to remain an undefeated 10-0 in all MAAC matches. Rodriguez followed with a 6-0 and 6-1 straight set win over Gabriel to earn her 16th singles victory of the season. The win was also her fourth straight in singles play and it gave her 39 total wins on the season, which is second on the team.
Rencheli clinched the Bobcats' win with a sweep over Armendariz, 6-1 and 6-1 in the No. 1 singles match. It was also Rencheli's fourth straight win in singles play. Horton followed with a win over Victoria Nugent in straight sets, 6-1 and 6-1, giving her 38 wins on the season.
Young then took the court in the No. 4 singles match against Kauffman and swept past her, 6-1 and 6-1 to earn her 40th win of the season. This is the third time in Young's career where she earned 40 wins in a season, with her career-high in a season being 41 wins which she accomplished in her freshman campaign.
Lohaphaisan closed the duel with a sweep over Ivanova, 6-1 and 6-0 in straight sets to earn her fifth straight win in singles competition, which is the longest active win-streak in singles play on the team. The win also preserved her unbeaten MAAC record, which improved to 10-0 after two wins today.
Quinnipiac will be back in action on Monday, April 24, as it travels to take on Marist at 3 p.m., with the chance to secure its fourth straight MAAC regular season championship and the No. 1 overall seed in the MAAC Tournament.
