
QU Men's Tennis Falls to Monmouth on Road in Regular Season Finale

QU Men's Tennis Clinches No. 3 Seed in MAAC Tournament
WEST LONG BRANCH, New Jersey - The Quinnipiac men's tennis team fell on the road to MAAC foe Monmouth in a 5-2 loss on Sunday, April 23.
With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 10-10 (5-2 MAAC), while Monmouth improved to 11-11 (7-0 MAAC). Despite suffering a loss, the Bobcats clinched the No. 3 seed in the MAAC Tournament and will take on No. 2 seed Marist in the semifinals.
Kei Ezaka (Ojai, California) and Julian Rozenstein (Marlboro, New Jersey) were the only Bobcats to earn a victory on the day.
The day began with the No. 3 doubles match where Kyle Alper (Dix Hills, New York) and Ezaka took on Christian Viera and Vikrant Dahiya, falling to the Monmouth duo, 6-2. Quinnipiac needed a win in the No. 1 doubles match to prevent Monmouth from taking the point, but Patrick Cachapero (Loma Linda, California) and Rozenstein narrowly fell to Przemyslaw Filipek and Ale Gomez Estrada, 7-6 (3). The Hawks secured the doubles sweep after Axel Stern (Tustin, California) and Austin Yannone (Severna Park, Maryland) fell to Nicola Pipoli and Alberto Giuffrida in a heavily contested match, 7-6 (2).
Monmouth held a 1-0 lead as singles play began with the No. 3 match, where Cachapero fell to Estrada, 6-2 and 6-1 in straight sets. Stern followed in the No. 4 singles match, falling to Viera in straight sets 6-1 and 6-1.
Monmouth secured the victory after Sergio Martinez defeated Yannone in straight sets, 6-3 and 6-2. Despite the loss, Quinnipiac closed strong, winning two of the last three matches.
Rozenstein defeated Filipek in three sets, taking the first 6-4, dropping the second 3-6, before closing strong in the third, 6-2. The win was Rozenstein's fifth in a row in singles play and keeps him undefeated in MAAC singles matches at 6-0.
Ezaka was able to earn a win over Pipoli in three sets as well. Ezaka took the first set, 7-6 (4) and dropped the second set, 5-7. However Ezaka bounced back and took the final set 10-4 to claim victory. The win was Ezaka's 143rd of his career, which is first all-time in program history.
The day closed with the No. 5 singles match, where Alper lost in a hard-fought three sets against Giuffrida. Alper took the first set 6-3, but dropped the final two, 6-3 and 6-3.
Quinnipiac will be back in action on Saturday, April 30, when it travels to Mercer Park in West Windsor, New Jersey to take on No. 2 Marist in the MAAC Tournament at 2 p.m.
