
QU Women's Tennis Falls to Miami, 5-0, in First Round of NCAA Tournament

CORAL GABLES, Florida – The Quinnipiac women's tennis team fell 5-0 Friday afternoon to the nationally-ranked No. 7 Miami (FL) Hurricanes in the first round of the 2016 NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament.
Quinnipiac's loss snaps its seven-match winning streak as they finish the season 15-11 after recording the most wins in a single-season in Division I program history. Miami (20-5) advances to face TCU (16-6) in the second round.
The Bobcats won 16 games in their loss to the Hurricanes, good for their most games won in a NCAA Tournament match in program history.
Senior Sophia Dzulynsky (Miramar, Florida) wrapped up her illustrious Quinnipiac career as she played in her final match as a Bobcat. Dzulynsky finished her career with 114 wins, 108 of which came at Quinnipiac, as well as three straight 36-win seasons and two MAAC Player of the Year awards.
The Bobcats battled in doubles, taking the first few games but the Hurricanes stormed back to take the point. Silvia Fuentes and Ana Madcur defeated Jennifer Lu (Cypress, California) and Proyfon Lohaphaisan (Santa Clarita, California) at No. 3 singles, 6-1, to take the first doubles match. Sinead Lohan and Clara Tanielian finished off the doubles point as they defeat Dzulynsky and Sitilia Rencheli (Sarasota, Florida), 6-2. After trailing 5-1, Rachel Horton (Stamford, Connecticut) and Sydney Young (Austin, Texas) won the final two games of their 3-5 unfinished match against nationally-ranked No. 12 Stephanie Wagner and Wendy Zhang.
Miami picked up the three wins they needed in singles play to win the match. Fuentes picked up her second win of the day as she defeated Lu 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles to give the Hurricanes a 2-0 lead. Miami ended the match as the No. 1 and No. 3 singles matches ended simultaneously. Dzulynsky fell at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-1 to nationally-ranked No. 9 Stephanie Wagner and Rencheli fell at No. 3 singles to nationally-ranked No. 75 Wendy Zhang, 6-1, 6-0. At No. 2 singles, Horton's match with nationally-ranked No. 8 Sinead Lohan finished because they were mid-pointt at the conclusion of the match, falling 6-0, 6-2.
Young's match with Tanielian at No. 5 singles went unfinished with Tanielian leading, 6-0, 5-1. Lohaphaisan won the most games in the match for the Bobcats as she trailed in her unfinished match with Ana Madcur, 6-3, 1-0.
