The Quinnipiac baseball team continues its 15-game road trip on Wednesday, March 30 when they travel to Hanover, New Hampshire to face the Dartmouth Big Green at 3 PM at Red Rolfe Field.
All-Time Against Dartmouth
Quinnipiac is 7-9 all-time against Dartmouth dating back to the 2001 season but the two teams have not faced off since the 2014 season. Quinnipiac won the last meeting between the two teams, 11-5, in Hanover. Ryan Nelson went 2 for 4 with a home run, double, three RBIs and two runs scored to lead all active Bobcats in the game.
Scouting the Big Green
Dartmouth comes into Wednesday's game with a 5-13 record with one win in their last five games. That lone win came against the South Florida Bulls in Tampa, Florida on Saturday, March 26 with a 1-0 shutout. Duncan Robinson struck out eight batters and allowed just four hits in his complete game shutout. Matt Feinstein leads all hitters with a .400 batting average in 11 games, scoring seven runs. Joe Purritano is batting .278 on the season with one home run with four runs scored and six walks. Michael Ketchmark leads the team with three home runs. The Bobcats were sept in the first MAAC weekend of the season this past weekend on the road at Marist. The Bobcats had not started conference play 0-3 since 2009 season when they started 0-4 with a four-game series sweep at the hands of Mount St. Mary's. The Bobcats fell 5-2 in the opening game, followed by 4-2 and 6-0 losses in a Saturday doubleheader.
Big Game Jankins
Despite taking his third loss of the season, Thomas Jankins had another impressive start for the Bobcats as he struck out a season-high nine batters in eight innings. Jankins has now struck out solid all season long despite his 2-3 record. In 34 2/3 innings, Jankins has a 3.37 ERA and struck out 37 batters with opponents hitting just .244 against the Bobcats righty.
Full Nelson
Ryan Nelson led the Bobcats in three games with four hits, going 4 for 11 with a run and a RBI. Nelson also had an impressive feat as he stole home in game one in the Saturday doubleheader. This season, Nelson is second on the team with a .308 batting average, 24 hits and four doubles. Nelson is riding a four-game hitting streak for the Bobcats. He also has seven multi-hit games this season.
Brian's Song
Brian Moskey had one of his best weekends of the season, batting .333 as he went 3 for 9 with a double and a run scored. Moskey has three doubles this season for the Bobcats and eight runs scored while his nine walks are third on the team. Moskey had a hit in three straight games for the Bobcats.
Orange Julius
Julius Saporito had a great weekend for the Bobcats as he went 2 for 5 in two games with a walk and a run scored, one of his best weekends of the season. Overall, Saporito has six hits this season with two doubles, two RBIs and three runs scored.
Goodfella
Robert Hitt had his best weekend of the season after coming out of the bullpen against the Marist Red Foxes. The sophomore pitcher 4 2/3 innings for his longest outing of the season, scattering seven hits with one run and a season-high five strikeouts.
Luciani's Solid
Taylor Luciani continued his impressive season for the Bobcats despite a loss on Saturday, as he tossed seven innings for the second time this season. The righty allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Luciani has be reliable all season, allowing two earned runs in four of his five starts for the Bobcats. He is 2-2 this season with a 3.66 ERA in five starts, while his 32 innings is second on the team and his 17 strikeouts are fourth on the team.
On Deck
The Bobcats have a bye week in MAAC play this weekend so they will travel to South Orange, New Jersey to face the Seton Hall Pirates in a three game series with the series opener scheduled for Friday at 6 PM followed by Saturday at 1 PM and Sunday at 12 PM.
