Luciana Tobia Finishes Tied for 8th
HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Florida – Quinnipiac freshman Luciana Tobia (La Paz, Bolivia) once-again led the Bobcats at the Bearcat Spring Classic. The Bobcats finished tied for 14th overall while Tobia logged another Top 10 finish with a tie for eighth place.
"Luciana [Tobia] continues to play great – she's going to end up being a consistent top 10 player," head coach John O'Connor said. "She and Julia Kemmling have consistently performed well. In spite of our finish, all-in-all, it was a very good tournament."
Tobia continues her impressive start to her Quinnipiac career, logging her fourth straight Top 10 finish, and her fourth straight tournament in 11th place or higher. The Bobcats' freshman finished a stroke off her best 54-hole score, carding a 232 (80-75-77, +16). Tobia bogeyed four of her first five holes before converting her first birdie of the day on hole No. 17. She then parred six her final 10 holes to finish at +5 for the day.
Kemmling shot a combined 248 (+32) as she followed a first-day 84 with an 80 on Saturday before closing the tournament with an 84.
"The competition was very, very good, and the course was extremely difficult," O'Connor said. "However, I think we're getting very close to being ready for our conference championship and I'm looking forward to that."
Estefania Morales (Caracas, Venezuela) shot an 86 to go with an 86 and an 81 for a three-round tally of 253 (+37). Taylor Lambrou (Baldwin, New York) improved by two strokes from her previous round and Nicole Scola (Westerly, Rhode Island) shot an 88.
Quinnipiac returns to action on Apr. 4-5 at Georgetown's Hoya Invitational at the Members Club in Four Streams.
