QU Acrobatics & Tumbling Defeats Gannon with Highest Score of the Season, 280.545-258.90

HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac acrobatics and tumbling team produced their highest score of the season as they took down Gannon University, 280.545-258.960. The Bobcats won five of the six events including the Complusory, Pyramid, Toss, Tumbling and Team rounds. With the result, Quinnipiac improves to 4-1 on the year while the Golden Knights drop to 2-1.
The Bobcats jumped out to a fast start against the Golden Knights, winning the Compulsory event, 38.80-36.30 and taking all four heats. Quinnipiac recorded huge back-to-back scores of 9.95 out of a possible 10 in both the Toss and Tumbling heats.
Gannon was able to capture the Acro event, but the Bobcats still held a slight 1.10 advantage over the competition. The Bobcats took the 6-Element heat with another 9.95. Junior Kelsey Rule (Kendall Park, New Jersey), senior Aleshia Ceste (Wallingford, Connecticut), senior Kayla McCormack (Hanson, Massachusetts), freshman Alexandra Williams (Poughkeepsie, New York) and Noelle Brasier (Simi Valley, California) all combined to produce the high mark.
Quinnipiac then secured their second event victory of the day with a win in the Pyramid heat. The Bobcats outscored the Golden Knights, 29.70-29.65, taking two of the three heats. QU put up scores of 9.85, 9.95 and 9.90 to come just short of the possible 30 points. Heading into half time, Quinnipiac held a 96.55-95.40 advantage over Gannon with three events remaining.
Coming out of the break, the Bobcats took the Toss event, 28.40-24.95 with victories in all three heats. Senior Taylor Johnson (Foxboro, Massachusetts), junior Allee Tallman (Farmington, New York), senior Catherine Toma (Hackettstown, New Jersey). freshman Erin Redding (Farmington, Connecticut) and freshman Jenna Capristo (Wolcott, Connecticut) all combined efforts to score a 9.65 in the Synchronized heat, their highest score of the round.
Quinnipiac increased their lead with a win in the Tumbling round, 54.775-49.35, taking all six heats of the event. Capristo and Johnson combined for a season-high score of 9.65 in the Duo Pass to begin the round. Johnson then improved to 5-0 on the year in the Aerial Pass with another 9.65. After Capristo won the 6-Element Pass with a 9.60, Tallman followed up with a 9.275 in the Open Pass to secure all six wins.
The Bobcats took their fifth event of the day and fourth straight with a win in the Team round. Quinnipiac outscored Gannon,100.82-89.26 in the final event.
Up next, the Bobcats will travel out west for two meets over spring break. On Saturday, March 12, Quinnipiac will visit the University of Oregon at 9 p.m. EST followed by a matchup with Azusa Pacific on Tuesday, March 15 at 9:30 p.m. EST.
