HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac University women's volleyball team lost to UMass Lowell, 3-0, in the Bobcats home opener at Burt Kahn Court in Hamden, Conn. With the loss, Quinnipiac drops to 1-3 on the year while the River Hawks pick up their first win of the season to improve to 1-4.
This was a tough loss for the Bobcats who, after winning their season opener, have now dropped their last three in a row. The Bobcats were led by freshman Sierra Dawson (Larkspur, Calif.) who played a great game on both sides of the ball. With 18 assists and 13 digs, the young Bobcat had her best game at Quinnipiac so far in her young career.
It was another big night for her fellow freshman Jamie Termotto (Smithtown, N.Y.). Termotto led the team with six kills at crucial times for Quinnipiac.
After dropping the first two sets it looked like Quinnipiac might have had a flashback to their season opener where they rallied from a 2-0 deficit to win the match. In the third set the Bobcats jumped ahead to an early 3-1 lead with a Jamie Termotto kill and two service errors on the River Hawks. However, the Bobcats could not capitalize on the early momentum and despite pulling within one with a 17-16 score, the Bobcats could not regain the lead. Despite strong showings in all three sets, the Bobcats could not minimize the runs Umass Lowell went on to create deficits that the Quinnipiac squad just could not overcome.
The Bobcats will look to rebound this weekend as they head south for the Greyhound Classic in Baltimore, Md. The tournament kicks off this Friday at 7:00 against Loyola. The next time the Bobcats return home will be on Saturday Sept. 20th in a MAAC showdown against Manhattan.
