#6 Bobcats Advance to NCATA Final Four - Defeat #3 Azuza Pacific in Quarterfinals

EUGENE, Ore. - The No. 6-seeded Quinnipiac acrobatics & tumbling team rallied to comeback and upset No. 3-seeded Azusa Pacific, 274.113 - 273.882, in the first round of the National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association National Championships on Thursday evening at Matthews Arena.
"It was a really intense, close meet," said head coach Mary Ann Powers. "They team was absolutely wonderful and I am so proud of what they were able to do tonight. Azusa put up a great fight against our team and I feel very honored to have gone head-to-head against their team."
Trailing by just 1.095 points heading into the final team routine event, the Bobcats outscored the Cougars 102.628 - 101.302 to pull off the incredible come-from-behind victory.
Azusa Pacific took the first event of the evening, the compulsories, with a 38.50 - 38.39 win. The Cougars narrowly defeated the Bobcats again in the following stunt event, winning 28.24 - 27.82.
Quinnipiac stormed back to earn its second highest score of the season in the pyramid event, defeating Azusa Pacific 29.35 - 28.85. The teams headed into the locker rooms with Azusa Pacific leading by just .03 points, 95.59 - 95.56.
Quinnipiac emerged from the locker rooms to take a 26.87 - 26.75 victory in the basket toss event, but fell in the following tumbling event, 50.24 - 49.06. Azusa Pacific entered the final event of the evening leading, 172.58 - 171.485, but was unable to hold on to its lead. Quinnipiac's score of 102.628 marked just the third time all season in which the Bobcats have recorded triple digits in the team routine event.

Quinnipiac returns to action tomorrow night when it faces No. 2-seeded Maryland at 9 p.m. (ET) in the semi-finals of the NCATA National Championships.
