HAMDEN, Conn. - The
Quinnipiac University men's cross country team placed second at the
Quinnipiac University Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 18. The
Bobcats finished the race with a total of 37 points. In first
place was Stonehill College with 20 points. Yale University placed
four runners in the top 10, however they could not place as a team
since they competed with only four runners. Leading the Bobcats was
sophomore Mike Levene (Redding, Conn.), finishing the 8K course in
fifth place overall with a time of 27:16.
"I
think the guys ran great," said Head Coach Carolyn Martin. "The
men's team is very young, so it's a learning process right now. As
the season goes on I expect for them to get better at racing this
distance."
Finishing second for
the Bobcats and in ninth place overall was sophomore Brian Cotter
(Huntington, N.Y.) with a time of 27:39. Following Cotter in
12th place was fellow sophomore Jacob Cetera (Chicago,
Ill.) in 27:50. The next two runners to finish for the Bobcats were
John Healy (Middletown, N.J.) in 27:58 and Dylan DeNuzzo (Melville,
N.Y.) in 28:01.
Senior Chris Scavone of Yale University was the Invitational's
winner with a time of 26:23.
The Quinnipiac
University Department of Athletics also recognized senior captain
John Greenlaw (Hampstead, N.H) for his accomplishments with the
Bobcats, prior to his final cross country race on the Hamden
campus. Greenlaw was named to the NEC All-Conference Teams in 2008
and 2009.
The
Bobcats look ahead to Friday, Oct. 1 when they attend the Paul
Short Invitational at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa. The meet
is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
