Christopher Pappas just completed his sixth season as the head coach of the Quinnipiac men’s tennis team in 2019-20.
Pappas’ first six seasons with the Bobcats have been impressive, as he has guided Quinnipiac to 56 total wins. The two-time MAAC Coach of the Year selection has led the program to a 26-8 MAAC record (2014-15 – current).
Most recently, the Bobcats 2019-20 season was cut short due to the COVID-19 virus before the Bobcats began MAAC play.
Quinnipiac turned in an impressive 2018-19 season, advancing to the MAAC Tournament title contest for the first time since 2015-16. The Bobcats went 9-13 (4-2 MAAC) in total, cruising past No. 2 Marist, 4-1, in the semifinal round of the conference tournament. Under Pappas’ guidance Quinnipiac earned six All-MAAC honors, highlighted by Alester Magalit being named 2019 MAAC Rookie of the Year. Magalit is the fourth player in program history to be named conference Rookie of the Year.
Pappas helped Quinnipiac to a 6-1 MAAC record in 2017-18, going 9-10 overall. The Bobcats fell vs. Marist in the MAAC Tournament semifinals. Four members of the Quinnipiac men's tennis team were honored on the 2018 All-MAAC second team (Julian Rozenstein, Axel Stern, Patrick Cachapero, Hielke Moore).
Quinnipiac went 5-2 in the MAAC in 2016-17, earning a 10-11 overall record. The Bobcats fell vs. Marist in the MAAC Tournament semifinals. Julian Rozenstein (No. 3 singles) and Kyle Alper (No. 6 singles) highlighted the program’s four All-MAAC award winners.
In 2015-16 during Pappas’ second season as Head Coach, the Bobcats recorded a program-record 16 victories. During that season, the Bobcats also claimed a share of their first MAAC Regular Season Championship in program history, and first overall regular season championship since the 2005-06 season when the Bobcats were in the NEC. The Bobcats reached the MAAC Championship for the first time in program history, where the fell in a tightly contested match with Monmouth, 4-3. Pappas coached four All-MAAC Selections in the 2015-16 season as well as the MAAC Player of the Year Kei Ezaka and the MAAC Co-Rookie of the Year Freddie Zaretsky.
The Bobcats finished the 2014-15 season with an 11-10 record and 5-2 mark in conference play. At the time, Quinnipiac’s 11 victories were its most since the 2006 season in which it finished 13-8 and qualified for its second of four NCAA Tournaments.
