Bobcats' Comeback Attempt Falls Short Against Canisius

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac baseball team's comeback attempt fell just short as the Bobcats were downed by MAAC foe Canisius in the weekend series finale, 5-4, Sunday afternoon at the QU Baseball Field.
With the loss the Bobcats fell to 6-16 on the season and 1-2 in the MAAC, while the Golden Griffins improved to 11-13 on the campaign with the win and 3-3 in the MAAC.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Canisius struck first for a combined four runs in the first two innings to jump out to an early 4-0 lead. The Golden Griffins added a run in the fourth to extend its lead to 5-0.
QU responded with three runs in the fifth. With runners on first and second with one out in the inning, Kyle Maves came through with an RBI single to cut the deficit to 5-1. After a stolen base and an error on the catcher, Andrew McDermott came around to score and Maves moved to third to cut the score to 5-2. Keegan O'Connor immediately followed with an RBI bunt single to score Maves from third to bring the Bobcats within two runs.
QU generated chances late, loading the bases with no outs in the eighth. Anthony Donofrio stepped to the play and hit into a double-play but not before Michael Kohn scored on the play to cut the deficit to 5-4.
The Bobcats were unable to muster another run, falling 5-4 in the series finale.

- Tate Copeland (0-3) got the start and took the loss after allowing four runs in 2.2 innings of work

- Romano posted five strikeouts in the outing
- The Bobcats will be back in action on Wednesday, April 6 when they travel to take on ACC powerhouse Boston College
