HAMDEN, Conn. – Jared Zimbardo led the offense with five RBIs, as the Quinnipiac baseball team downed MAAC foe Manhattan at home, 9-7, on Friday afternoon at the Quinnipiac Baseball Field.

With the win the Bobcats improved to 12-24 on the season and 5-8 in the MAAC, while the Jaspers fell to 17-21 on the campaign and 7-9 in conference play with the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bobcats struck first in the bottom of the first after Danny Melnick blasted a solo homer over the left field fence to give Quinnipiac a 1-0 lead. However Manhattan responded with three runs in the fourth inning to take a 3-1 lead.

Quinnipiac responded with a run of its own in the bottom of the frame. With runners on first and second Keegan O'Connor lined an RBI double between the gap in left and center, scoring Melnick to trim the deficit to 3-2.

The Jaspers went on to score two runs of their own in the top of the fifth to extend their lead to 5-2. However, with one out in the innings and runners on first and second, Jared Zimbardo crushed a three-run homer to straightaway center, knotting the contest at 5-5. Later in the inning with runners on first and second, O'Connor lined a single to left to score Kyle Maves from second to give Quinnipiac a 6-5 lead.

The Bobcats added to their lead in the seventh, starting with an RBI double to score McGwire Tuffy from first to extend the lead to 7-5. Later in the inning, Zimbardo scored on a wild pitch to extend Quinnipiac's lead to 8-5.

Manhattan added two runs in the ninth, but the deficit proved to be too much for the Jaspers, as the Bobcats held on for the eventual 9-7 victory.
