Bobcats Sweep Home Opener Against Holy Cross

HAMDEN, Conn.-- The Quinnipiac softball team swept their home opener against Holy Cross and allowed only one run through two games. The first of two ended 5-1 in the Bobcats favor while the second matchup needed only five innings as QU put up five runs in the bottom of the fifth to shutout the Crusaders, 8-0.
Bridget Nasir's three RBI's, LaLa Pascual's four RBI's and a solid showing on the mound by Sydney Horan and Jackie Gonzalez pushed the Bobcats past the Crusaders. This is the seventh shutout of the year for the Bobcats.

SCORING SUMMARY
Game one
First Inning-
- Holy Cross took an early lead in the first inning as Jessica Mott scored on a single from Ali Sniegocki.
 - The Bobcats responded in the bottom half of the inning with Mary Fogg on third and Brooke Hilliard on second, a single to center from Natalia Apatiga brought Fogg home and pushed Hilliard to third.
 - Hilliard scored on the next play as Hannah Davis' sacrifice bunt gave her time to cross home and advanced Apatiga to third.
 - Apatiga was subsequently brought in to score on Bridget Nasir's single to right field.
 
Fourth Inning-
- QU extended their lead in the fourth after Serena Fogg tripled to center field which was followed by a double to left center from Lala Pascual.
 
Sixth Inning-
- The Bobcats secured their victory when Nasir scored on a sacrifice flyout to left field.
 
NOTES:
- Bridget Nasir and Ally Hochstadter each had a stolen base.
 - Serena Fogg recorded one run, one hit and one triple through three at bats.
 - Lala Pascual tallied two hits, two RBIs, and one double.
 - Sydney Horan pitched 7.0 innings and allowed just one run and five hits.
 
Game two
Third Inning-
- After being scoreless through two the Bobcats took the lead in the third and never looked back. The first run of the game came when Mac Davis pinch ran for Lala Pascual who doubled to left field. M. Davis scored on a single from M. Fogg to left.
 
Fourth Inning-
- QU added two more to their lead with Apatiga on third and H. Davis on second. Apatiga was brought home on a groundout by Serena Fogg and advanced H. Davis into scoring position.
 - H. Davis scored on a double to right center from Pascual.
 
Fifth Inning-
- The Bobcats ended the game early with five runs scored in the bottom of the fifth. With H. Davis up to bat, Hilliard on second and M. Fogg on third, H. Davis walked and advanced to second allowing M. Fogg to score on a wild pitch from Crusaders Sophia Roncone.
 - Nasir brought in two RBI's and reached on an error at second base to bring H. Davis and Hilliard home.
 - With the Bobcats in the lead by six Nasir advanced to second on the wild pitch and S. Fogg doubled to center field on the next play to push Nasir across homeplate.
 - The final run of the evening came after a pitching change by the Crusaders when Peyton Morehouse replaced Roncone on the mound and Ally Hochstadter pinch ran for Serena Fogg. Pascual's single gave Hochstadter ample time to cycle home and bring the final score to 8-0 Bobcats.
 
NOTES:
- Nasir, S. Fogg, and Pascual each recorded two RBIs in the shutout over Holy Cross.
 - Pascual and S. Fogg combined for three doubles.
 - M. Fogg recorded one run, one hit, and one RBI through three at bats.
 - Jackie Gonzalez pitched 5 innings allowed only three hits and striking out two.
 - This is the seventh shutout of the year for the Bobcats.
