Niagara Outlasts QU in Extras, 8-7

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. – Three different Bobcats homered in the contest but it wasn't enough as the Quinnipiac baseball team fell short on the road in the weekend opener at MAAC foe Niagara, 8-7, in 11 innings on Thursday afternoon on Bobo Field.
With the loss, the Bobcats fell to 15-31 on the season and 8-13 in the MAAC, while the Purple Eagles improved to 17-30 on the campaign and 11-11 in the MAAC with the victory..

HOW IT HAPPENED
Quinnipiac struck first in the opening frame for a run to get out to an early advantage. With the bases loaded in the inning, Ian Ostberg popped out in foul territory in left but it was hit deep enough to score Kyle Maves from third. QU added more in the third inning after Jared Zimbardo and Anthony Donofrio hit back-to-back solo homers to left to increase the Bobcats' lead to 3-0. However, Niagara responded with seven runs of their own in the fourth to take a 7-3 lead.
QU trimmed the deficit to three in the sixth after Keegan O'Connor blasted a solo homer to left to bring the score to 7-4. QU added two more runs in the sixth off a wild pitch and fielder's choice to cut the deficit to 7-6. QU was able to knot the game at 7-7 with two outs in the eighth inning after Zimbardo lined an RBI single up the middle to score Julian Uejima.
Nine innings wasn't enough as the two teams went into extras tied at 7-7. However with a runner on second in the 11th, the Purple Eagles were able to pick up a hit to secure the walk-off victory.
