Bobcats Outlast Fairfield in 16-13 Slugfest

With the win the Bobcats improved to 15-29 on the season and 8-12 in the MAAC, while the Stags fell to 27-19 on the campaign and 15-5 in the MAAC with the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bobcats struck first in the bottom of the first after Ian Ostberg drilled a two-run homer to right to give Quinnipiac a 2-0 lead. In the following inning QU was able to load the bases for McGwire Tuffy, who delivered on a bases clearing double to extend Quinnipiac's lead to 5-0. The Bobcats were able to add two more runs in the inning off a sacrifice fly from Jared Zimbardo and RBI single from Danny Melnick to give QU a comfortable 7-0 lead.
Fairfield battled back, plating five runs in the fourth to cut Quinnipiac's lead to 7-5. However, Quinnipiac added a run in the following frame off a sac-fly from Melnick to extend the Bobcats' lead to 8-5. Fairfield countered with a run of its own in the ensuing frame to cut the Stags deficit to two.
The Bobcats would not back down, extending their lead to 10-6 in the fifth after Sam LaChance drilled a two-run homer to left. Fairfield rallied in the sixth for six runs of their own to take a 12-10 lead over Quinnipiac.
QU did not go quietly into the night, battling back to rally with four runs of their own in the sixth. Anthony Donofrio tied the contest at 10-10 after he hit a two-run homer to right. Then two batters later, Ostberg struck again for his second two-run jack of the afternoon to extend the Bobcats' lead to 14-12. Ostberg added to his total with a two-run double in the seventh to extend the lead to 16-12.
The lead proved to be too much for the Stags as the Bobcats eventually held on for the 16-13 victory.

- Derek Goldrick got the start and took the no-decision after surrendering three earned runs in 3.0 innings of work
- Goldrick logged four strikeouts in the start
