HAMDEN, Conn. – Sophomore Andrew McDermott led the offense with two hits and two RBIs, but it wasn't enough as the Quinnipiac baseball team was downed by MAAC foe Manhattan at home, 11-8, on Sunday afternoon at the Quinnipiac Baseball Field.

With the loss the Bobcats fell to 13-25 on the season and 6-9 in the MAAC, while the Jaspers improved to 18-22 on the campaign and 8-10 in conference play with the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bobcats struck first in the bottom of the second after Andrew McDermott lined an RBI single up the middle to score Anthony Donofrio from second to give Quinnipiac an early 1-0 advantage. However, the Jaspers responded with five runs of their own in the fourth to take a 5-1 lead in the contest.

Quinnipiac trimmed the deficit in the fourth behind an RBI single from McDermott to bring the score to 5-2. The Bobcats added another run in the fifth after Keegan O'Connor served a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Kyle Maves from third to trim Manhattan's lead to 5-3.

However, Manhattan responded with six runs of its own in the sixth to extend its lead to 11-3 before eventually going on to secure an 11-8 victory over Quinnipiac.

NEWS AND NOTES

McDermott led the offense with two hits and two RBIs
Donofrio contributed three hits and two runs scored as well
Keegan O'Connor and Sean Swenson added an RBI in the contest
Danny Melnick homered in the loss, bringing his total on the season to a team-best eight
Ian Ostberg added a solo homer and two runs scored in the loss
Matt DeLuca got the start and took the no-decision after tossing two scoreless innings
Anthony Ambrosino (1-1) suffered the loss, as he relieved DeLuca in the third and surrendered five runs in 1.1 innings of work
