Bobcats' Offense Powers Past Monmouth, 13-5

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac baseball team saw three different players homer, as the Bobcats defeated MAAC foe Monmouth at home, 13-5, on Friday afternoon at the QU Baseball Field to snap the Hawks' previously MAAC unbeaten streak.
With the win the Bobcats improved to 8-20 on the season and 2-6 in the MAAC, while the Hawks fell to 17-15 on the campaign and 7-1 in the MAAC with the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED
QU jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning after Ian Ostberg dropped down a bunt single with runners on first and third to score a run. Later in the inning with the bases loaded, Sean Swenson came through with a sacrifice-fly to right, scoring Danny Melnick from third to give the Bobcats a 2-0 lead.
However, Monmouth responded with four runs of its own in the top of the second to take a 4-2 lead. The Bobcats knotted the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the second after Melnick hammered a two-run homer to left. Ostberg immediately followed with a solo shot of his own to right to give QU a 5-4 lead in the contest. Later in the inning, Sean Swenson joined the festivities with a two-run jack to left to extend QU's lead to 7-4 over the Hawks.
Quinnipiac added to its lead in the fourth with two runs in the frame. With Ostberg at the plate and runners on second and third, a passed ball and a sacrifice fly allowed QU to extend its lead to 9-4 nearly midway through the contest.
The Bobcats added two more runs in the sixth via a two-run single off the bat of Kyle Maves to extend Quinnipiac's lead to 11-4. The lead proved to be too much for the Hawks, as the Bobcats hung on for the eventual 13-5 victory.
