Ostberg and Melnick Homer in Bobcats' Loss vs. Monmouth, 7-4

HAMDEN, Conn. – Graduate student Ian Ostberg and junior Danny Melnick each homered in the contest, but it wasn't enough as the Bobcats were downed by MAAC foe Monmouth at home, 7-4, on Thursday afternoon at the QU Baseball Field.
With the loss the Bobcats fell to 7-20 on the season and 1-6 in the MAAC, while the Hawks improved to 17-14 on the campaign and 7-0 in the MAAC with the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hawks struck first for three runs in the top of the first to take an early 3-0 lead. The Bobcats got a run back in the bottom of the second after Ian Ostberg blasted a solo homer over the left centerfield fence to trim the deficit to 3-1.
The Bobcats added another run in the fourth off the bat of Danny Melnick after he belted a solo shot over the left field fence to trim the deficit to 3-2. However, the Hawks responded with two runs of their own in the following frame to extend their lead to 5-2 in the fifth.
With Monmouth leading 5-3, the Hawks were able to add two insurance runs in the eighth to extend its lead to 7-3, before eventually holding on for the 7-4 victory.

- Melnick went 3-for-4 with two RBIs in the loss
- Brandyn Garcia (4-5) got the start and took the loss after allowing five runs in 6.1 innings of work
- Garcia struck out 11 in the outing
- The Bobcats will be back in action on Friday, April 15 when they continue their MAAC slate when QU plays host to Monmouth
- First pitch from the QU Baseball Field is set for 1 p.m.
